The Isle of Man Indaba, in collaboration with the South African Chamber of Commerce UK and Finance Isle of Man, will host a topical event in London under the theme “Cross-Border Clarity: Practical Insights in Uncertain Times.” With 2024 proving to be more than just an election year – but perhaps the election year – the event will provide essential strategies for secure, compliant wealth management as financial markets and political landscapes shift around the globe.

Globally, at least 64 countries and the European Union – representing nearly half the world’s population – will have held elections by year-end, with more than a billion people having already voted by July. In this history-making year, political outcomes across multiple regions are poised to reshape regulatory and economic landscapes, creating new pressures and opportunities for wealth management.

As cross-border finance becomes increasingly complex, this event is designed for legal, financial, and advisory professionals with clients who have interests in South Africa. In particular, the Isle of Man, with its robust regulatory framework, offers timely solutions for wealth expansion, protection, and succession. A panel of experts will provide insight into key areas including tax implications, international investing, and the value of Isle of Man structures for mitigating risks in today’s uncertain environment. Panellists include:

  • Hanneke Farrand, Partner at Farrand Global, a 25-year veteran in South African tax law, private wealth management, and cross-border planning;
  • Cobus Visagie, Group CEO of African Merchant Capital Group, with deep expertise in mid-market investments and capital strategies across Sub-Saharan Africa; and
  • Robin Bates, Business Development Manager at Capital International Bank, who brings extensive experience in fiduciary services within the UK and Isle of Man.

The event will also feature a compelling leadership talk hosted by the South African Chamber of Commerce UK, with Andrew Russell, author of The Leadership We Need: Lessons for Today from Nelson Mandela. Drawing on Mandela’s principles of resilience and clarity, Russell’s talk will offer guidance for professionals looking to help their clients navigate this complex year with confidence and vision.

A timely forum for cross-border wealth and regulatory clarity

Attendees will gain actionable insights on cross-border asset management, regulatory compliance, and strategies for navigating the global political climate in a way that protects and grows wealth. This event offers both the knowledge and networking opportunities to help participants stay resilient through this pivotal year.
